The boat today

Sailors’ rhymes are oft obscene.
By way of a change,
I’ll keep this clean.

Sunny forecast

Sunrise,
Blue skies,
Fresh wind blows,
Kids a-doze,
Forecast great,
Work can wait,
No need to stay,
The boat today.

Passage planned?
Back of my hand!
Start the engine,
Fly the ensign,
Tidal times,
Slip the lines,
We’re underway,
The boat today.

Contented skipper

Hoist the main,
Like a train!
Jibs’l set,
Faster yet,
Waves o’er the bow,
We’re flying now,
Making way,
The boat today.

Afternoon,
Nice bay soon,
In the lee,
A spot of tea,
Water lapping,
Skipper napping,
Making hay,
The boat today.

Boat put to bed

Slow and steady,
Lines a-ready,
Final turn,
A touch astern,
Make her fast,
Fore-and-aft,
All stowed away,
The boat today.

Starlight,
Late tonight,
Kids in bed,
Sunburned head,
Cheeks a-glow,
A sleepy yawn,
What more to say?
The boat today.
